- Notice your state of consciousness. Are you fully present? Do you find yourself ruminating, especially focusing on negative thoughts about yourself and others? There may be many reasons for this state, but can you take a higher perspective? Allow the negative thoughts to blow through your mind without judgment. Once you acknowledge them, let them go and choose something positive to focus on instead.
- If you are working with a practitioner, take a moment to ask how they are doing. If they seem distracted or stressed, consider spending a minute or two together focusing on becoming more present and aware. If they appear tuned out, anxious, or not present, consider paying for the session, leaving without treatment, and gifting them a break to relax or rescheduling the session for another time.
- Take responsibility for your consciousness by striving to be in a state of love, joy, and/or peace. If you struggle to connect to those feelings, think of someone or something that brings you love, happiness, or peace. This could be a person, a pet, or a favorite place like the beach or mountains.
